Lincoln’s Gateway Sertoma Club and Tabitha, Nebraska’s industry-leading Senior Care provider, joined forces and welcomed golfers to play for a cause. The 16th annual golf event experienced a record-breaking year at Lincoln’s NuMark Golf Course. Participants enjoyed a day of sunshine and golf, raising more than $60,000 to support Tabitha Meals on Wheels which has served the local Lincoln community for over 50 years.
The donations from the event will help provide meals for 500+ Lincoln neighbors who rely on this lifeline program to remain independent in the comfort of their homes. Eight-five percent of meal recipients say a volunteer is often the only face-to-face interaction they have in a day. And 70 percent of recipients are unable to afford the $6.25 cost of the meal. As Tabitha turns no one in need away from a warm meal, contributions like those from Gateway Sertoma are instrumental in ensuring everyone is served regardless of their ability to pay.
“We’re grateful for the solid partnerships from community members who have golfed with us every summer in support of Tabitha Meals on Wheels,” Tabitha Chief Development Officer Heath Stukenholtz said. “The success of this fundraiser is due to the hard work and overwhelming commitment Gateway Sertoma has dedicated to Tabitha over the past 16 years.”
Gateway Sertoma was founded as a service club in Lincoln in 1961. The group’s mission is “service to mankind” motivating members to volunteer service and fundraising for community programs in need. Sixteen years ago, the group combined their love of service with their love of golf by hosting this charity golf tournament to benefit the mission of Tabitha. Members turned to Tabitha to help coordinate the tournament with proceeds benefiting first Tabitha Hospice and today, Tabitha Meals on Wheels.
