12th Annual – Gateway Sertoma Supports Tabitha Meals on Wheels

Lincoln’s Gateway Sertoma Club and Tabitha—your answer for Elder Care—joined forces on June 6, welcoming more than 200 golfers to play for a cause. Proceeds from the 12th-annual golf event brought in more than $53,000 in support of Tabitha Meals on Wheels.

In true tournament style, the event featured a four-person scramble, hole games, prizes and the media challenge where the Lincoln Journal Star team re-claimed the coveted media trophy.

“Gateway Sertoma Club has been honored to be a part of this tournament benefiting Meals on Wheels for the past 11 years,” said Charlie Huff, Gateway Sertoma golf committee member. “Our members are dedicated to this fundraiser because they recognize the extraordinary impact Tabitha Meals on Wheels has in Lincoln.”

Tournament proceeds will provide more than 9,200 hot, nutritious meals to Tabitha Meals on Wheels clients. The program serves more than 500 meals per day to those in need. Seventy percent of recipients are unable to afford the $5.75 cost of the meal, and Tabitha is committed to saying yes to all those in need regardless of their financial situation.

“Partnerships like those with Gateway Sertoma are why Tabitha Meals on Wheels can continue to operate,” said Christie Hinrichs, Tabitha president and CEO. “We are truly blessed by the hard work, dedication and commitment this group has shown to Tabitha Meals on Wheels.”

Gateway Sertoma was founded as a service club over 50 years ago. The group’s mission is “service to mankind”, motivating members to volunteer service and fundraising for community programs in need. Twelve years ago, the group combined its love of service with its love of golf by hosting a charity golf tournament. Members turned to Tabitha to help operate the tournament, with proceeds donated first to Tabitha Hospice and later to Tabitha Meals on Wheels.

As a nonprofit organization serving 28 Nebraska counties, Tabitha’s love embraces a society where everyone is valued and empowered to live life to the fullest, with compassionate at-home support, innovative living communities, exceptional rehabilitation, health care and hospice services.
